I have been quiet lately because I made several purchases: I bought some devices to aid in creating backups, namely a USB disk reader, a cassette tape ripper and an external HDD.
I don't consider myself as a collector. I buy things whenever I can, but given my social upbringing, I never really had spare money to buy luxuries for myself. So the things I own are either hand-me-downs or stuff purchased by my parents when I was very young.
However, I do cherish the things that I have, and knowing that AI has all but ruined the internet's virtual spaces, I started to think more about creating an archive for myself. With these newly purchased devices, I can work on digitalizing my stuff to keep them always accessible, as long as I have this drive.
Nothing I own is rare or unique. I could probably search the internet to find the same music disks, already ripped and uploaded by someone else, and work from there. However, I prefer doing this myself, because learning how to rip your own media for backup is a valuable skill to have.
Right now, I'm ripping a box set of 10 DVDs. It's a slow process, but it's so cool to see the disk contents in my HDD instead of being locked in a media that the tech industry doesn't want to support anymore.
