It seems that despite the news of so many layoffs and people becoming unemployed, the amount of work never becomes smaller. And even if it somehow did, people are encouraged to take as many gigs to make ends meet. I know people who work three different jobs (!), and are seriously considering a fourth (!!)

I have a formal job and I do other things sometimes, making commissions, publishing music on Bandcamp and getting donations via Ko-fi to earn a little bonus. Those aren't full-on jobs, sure, but they're things that I'm always thinking about, and treat seriously to give people quality stuff.

But the negative effect of this kind of routine is that it demands a lot from me. I essentially have no time for myself, other than when I go to sleep (and I'm often revenge-sleep-procrastinating to finish my own art ideas). This is stressful, it accumulates and it is hard to get out from it, once you become accommodated.

Who never felt that slight sensation of jealousy when you see your friends creating so many cool things? Who never felt the inadequateness of your own output compared to what your peers were able to achieve? And even though deep down, you know that you're not seeing the whole picture and everyone has their own struggles to deal with, the brain easily falls into these pitfalls and it just can't be helped.

And when your mood is fouled up with those thoughts, any small misunderstanding can feel like a knife stab. Stress has this effect of making bad things much worse, and good things feel like they're nothing. And often, this ends up hurting others that don't even have anything to do with the situation at hand.

I'm trying to be more gentle towards myself. I want to create things, not as a proof that I'm still worthy. I already am worthy - I want to create because that's what brings me joy. And I don't want to let that joy be buried under these feelings.

If this relates to you in some way, know that I believe in you and that I'll root for our success.
