I am about to go to work, but this thought suddenly popped into my head and I think it warrants being written down.
Be silly. Do things that interest you, even though it would interest virtually nobody. As long as it is not harmful to anybody, go and make something for the love of the game.
Want to write a silly story? Do it. Want to doodle something horny? By all means. Want to translate a book or game that only you and your friend would ever want to experience? Sure thing!
I think that the human side of the internet will benefit from those more "personal" endeavors. Nowadays, everyone uses the same 3 sites for "content" (mind you, I detest this word) and personally, I feel this leads to homogenization. Everyone is playing under the same "rules", the same algorithm and the same potential user base.
There is much value to being outside the curve. Sometimes, it is good to ignore viral trends and do your own thing in your own pace, even if the former feels more enticing and immediately rewarding. In the long run, if you're on the internet, then you might as well make it an enjoyable ride for yourself.
And perhaps, your personal niche project might even actually interest more people than you initially think! Be bold and caring, and everything should work out in the end.
