Starting today I will start spelling "Brasil" with an S even when writing in English (pronunciation remains the same, the change only affects the spelling).
This change will be personal, gradual, and non-negotiable. I don't care if word processors will underline it with red squiggles. It's Brasil, the land of the Brasilians.
Yesterday, Brasil has shown hope to the world. In what was a lost cause for the Left-wing, us brasilians have organized and made demonstrations in favor of Lula, and thanks to everyone's efforts, we managed to defeat the nepo-baby Flávio Bolsonaro, who is deeply involved with the Rio de Janeiro Militia, child abusers, child murderers and hell-bent on reducing Workers' Rights and deregulation on the forest preservation efforts, and many other heinous things.
To make things worse, we had to deal with the meddling of American tech companies, Bolsonarist mayors that halted bus services during voting day, and even Trump himself.
And yet the brasilians secured this victory with much work, coordinated efforts from Federal Deputies Ana Elisa, André Janones, Erika Hilton and Rick Azevedo, and the strong sense of community -- of 3 million people in São Paulo city alone -- against fascism and USA vassalage.
I'm not going to force this to anyone, because forcing and being pedantic about things is not how I roll. But if you respect Brasil and what this country is able to achieve even against insurmountable odds -- if our fights are inspiring to you in some way, then I wholeheartedly suggest doing it.
With renewed pride in my country and knowing that we won an impossible battle, with Lula going to serve a fourth term (a never before seen event in Brasil's history), we feel incredible and we're savoring the hard-earned victory. There is much work to be done still, but for now, I reiterate Brasil's might, influence and above everything else, friendliness, compassion and encouraging energy upon the world.
