What can I say about AI that has not been said? And yet here I am, writing again about this hateful technology that is nothing more than a reverse Midas, turning everything its tendrils touch into trash.
Generative AI in the realm of art has been nothing but destructive, by completely misunderstanding why we create art to begin with. In the (already atrophied) minds of Generative AI fans, art is just the result, not the process - a point of view that has become exacerbated thanks to excessive consumerism spearheaded by capitalism.
And yet, in this context, we see more self-proclaimed artists laying their hands on AI, perhaps to increase their work output, or to "not be left behind" in the trend. A baffling choice, sometimes even made by skilled artists with years of experience in the field.
More and more, we see things like book covers, leaflets, album art and video thumbnails being spewed by AI in droves. Even memes, which are meant to be low-quality, are tainted by its disgusting tendrils. A lot of people have chosen to surrender their creativity and let the machine do the expression for themselves.
I ask: if you use Generative AI for the album art, who can guarantee that you don't use gen AI on your music? If your book's cover is AI, how will I be sure your story isn't as well?
To use AI in a work that is supposed to be creative is to agree that you throw away all your value as an artist. Indeed, you're no artist: you're just an empty husk that surrendered yourself to the machines. Nothing that you claim to have created has any value nor weight.
More power to the real artists. May we stand tall even in times like these. To you, who work tirelessly, my sincerest thanks.
