You know how people say that the German language has a specific word for every niche concept? So, I humbly suggest. How about this concept:

"The feeling where you're a fan of a certain thing or series, but you are not exactly looking forward to it, nor hyped for more new content"

This is exactly the feeling I had every time I saw information about the new Super Mario movie on my social media feeds.

It's not like I am a hater. I genuinely want people to enjoy it, but even though I really enjoy Mario, I don't look forward to actually watching the movie and I'm deliberately trying my best to avoid it (and it's not because of spoilers).

 Here's my (admittedly tongue-in-cheek) coinage: Fanvermeidung (fan-avoidance).

 Here are some usage examples:

"I have Fanvermeidung towards the new Mario movie."
"Francis Bacon deliberately avoided seeing the original Portrait of Innocent IX even though he liked it, in a case of Fanvermeidung."

The "Fan" in Fanvermeidung refers to yourself. You, as a "fan", are avoiding the thing. This avoidance can happen because the fanbase is toxic, but that's not the only reason.

Maybe you respect the thing so much, that experiencing it could shatter your idealized expectations. Maybe it is a reaction against exacerbated consumerism: not engaging with it can be a way to flee from this overstimulating aspect of capitalism.

Essentially, it boils down to "I genuinely like it but I avoid it", regardless of motivation.

I just feel Fanvermeidung towards it.
